For any of you out there with kids, especially on the younger side, you are fully aware of how hard it is to keep up with the amount of artwork your child creates. I have some up on my wall, in the fridge, and I send it out to grandparents regularly. I've got most of it all saved up in a closet in a box that I won't ever look at again ... or until we move. Naturally, this makes me feel guilty. So I am always searching for a creative way to display my daughter's art that we can both be proud of. I think I Like That Lamp has become an ideal solution. I've used some of my daughter's favourite pieces, and transferred them onto fabric, to create a truly one of a kind lampshade that she happily displays in her room. We are both thrilled with how it came out.
Iron the fabric fully because you want to avoid having any wrinkles later on.
Find your favourite children's art pieces that you can easily trace. Place the art underneath your fabric (the lighter the fabric, the easier it is to trace) and trace it out as closely as you can. I also recommend having a lot of light overhead to make it easier.
Once it's finished drying, I followed I Like That Lamp's steps to adhere the fabric to the styrene. It didn't take long at all to do.
Add the lampshade to the lamp base that you want to display this gorgeous work of art on. I chose this simple base, as I wanted to make sure my daughter's work was the prettiest thing you'd see.
She's so proud of this lampshade that every time we have guests over, she drags them straight to her room to show them. I'd say it's a success.
