Ah, IKEA: the staple of first-apartment-furnishers, the budget-conscious, and the space-constrained. IKEA's well priced and utilitarian furniture and decor can be seen everywhere, which is great - except that it can be seen everywhere. There is a whole, amazing directory of IKEA 'hacks' at ikeahackers.com, but they are mostly focused on furniture pieces rather than lighting. So here are some ideas for refreshing IKEA lamps so to make sure your well-priced lighting is not the same as your neighbor's.
JANSJÖ LED clamp spotlight
Spray this utilitarian clip-on lamp in gold or silver and you'll have a more luxe, metallic version.
The shade of this ubiquitous floor lamp is made from rice paper, so dying it in an ombre pattern should not be difficult. Use this paper lampshade dyeing technique from Martha Stewart.
Ikea uses a lot of rice paper for its lamps which do impart a natural, Scandinavian feel. You could also up the woodsy factor by wrapping it in a nice fiber like jute twine.
Have you re-imagined an IKEA lamp? Or do you have one that you don't know what to do with? Feel free to share (or vent)!
