The thing is, a genuine vintage Sputnik will set you back a few thousand dollars, at least! But it is possible to make your own sputnik chandelier and re-create the look at home on a budget.
Here are some more chic DIY Sputnik projects that can give you a genuine mid-century modern look, without the genuine Antique Store price-tag :)
IKEA MASTROS-TURNED-SPUTNIK CHANDELIER DIY
Jenny from Little Green Notebook made over a spindly IKEA chandelier with gold paint. The unlikely addition of some tiny plastic cups creates a significantly higher-end MCM look than the original fixture.
This incredible DIY Sputnik Chandelier made with spray-painted microphones! It gets a 10/10 for both creative thinking and execution. Via Sarah's Big Idea
Another IKEA lighting hack which turns the otherwise blandly symmetrical silver/nickel Stockholm chandelier into a more spherical & sculptural form. The hacker simply placed the longest spokes in randomly, graduating to smaller spokes to the event out the ball-shape. Via Ikea Hackers
This mini-sputnik is a smaller version of the real thing, but has the same modern lines and unfinished brass construction to help conjure up the original.
