You might not know this about us, but we love plants (not just lamps) and it looks like we found a kindred spirit. Stacy from Not Just a Housewife created a beautiful DIY terrarium lamp using our lampshade and wiring supplies, a bunch of green terrarium plants and a large jar with a wood lid.
“If you know me even just a little bit, you know I LOVE plants and terrariums. I have had this idea in my mind for a long time but I have never gotten around to doing it. When I Like That Lamp reached out to me, I knew this was the perfect time to implement my idea for a terrarium lamp!

I am really happy with how it turned out. For now it is on our side table in the living room but a couple of my boys have petitioned to have it in their new bedroom. One of their rooms is going to be decorated with a theme of the mountains and nature so I think it might be a good fit!”
Terrariums are small oases of nature that make our home and office spaces feel a lot happier and look a lot more welcoming. The best thing about terrariums is that they require very little care. Which is awesome, seeing as, some of us, here at I Like That Lamp, can't keep plants alive at all.
Combining aesthetics with function is where the terrarium becomes lamp and provides the benefits of two worlds. On one hand, you'll always have the fabulous contrast of green and dirt, a tiny corner of living nature right on your desk. Plus, it's a decoration with a very useful function: lighting up the room.
You can make an open or closed terrarium lamp. If your terrarium base is closed, then, guess what? It will require very little water and that will happen once a month. When using a closed environment, none of the water will be lost through evaporation.
If it's your first terrarium, the rule of the thumb is to keep an eye on it for the first couple of weeks. If your terrarium's walls are constantly fogged or moist, then you should open up the lid for a couple of days to make sure all the extra water evaporates.
